Local Congregation Sits During Corporate Singing, Bringing Awareness To Systemic Heresy Preached Around The World
Dallas, TX
Much of the congregation at a local Baptist Church, Narrow Way Fellowship, have decided that enough is enough when it comes to heresy in the so-called church around the world, and that a greater awareness to this heresy must be brought to light. This movement in a church of about 800 members started with married couple, Joel and Barbara Stag, and in three months has spread to about half of the church.
"People have tried to tell me worshiping God is an honor, and I should stand with everyone else as we always have. But, you can't force worship, and I do worship in my own way. Just not in the usual way--not when there is a systemic heresy problem going on around the world. I still hum the songs in my heart, sitting down, but I'm not singing out loud and standing up. I don't mean to bring any offense to the leadership or other members of our church, but what are we doing about heresy around the world? We totally respect God, and we respect the church. Of course I totally love my church, but it's bigger than just us. I love the forgotten sheep trapped in heresy. If sitting through the songs helps others realize this, then that's what I gotta do, and my conscience is clear."
The behavior has caused quite the division in the local church, and the numbers seem to be holding at about half of the members, reaching an apparent stalemate in participation. But, those who are doing the sitting, promise that their intentions are good. We were told, when asking one about this apparent division, "Well, I disagree that sitting is causing the division. Heresy is causing the division. It's all about stopping heresy, that's all this is about. You aren't a heretic, are you?", Jane McDonald told us. "My fellow brothers and sisters here have it all wrong when they say we are disrespecting God. God sees our heart. Of course we love God. We just choose not to worship Him like that for a little bit when everybody else is called upon to do so by the leadership. Heresy is rampant around the world. I don't know if there are any heretics in our church. I mean, as the law of averages goes, there probably are. Hopefully this will make them think twice about their heresy, if there are. But, regardless, you must admit there is a lot of heresy around the world. We are just doing our part to bring attention to it. I just wish the rest of the church would understand. A little compassion and zeal against heresy will go a long way. There are so many false teachers out there. I'm doing this out of love for all my brothers and sisters around the world trapped under their teaching."
Meanwhile, the church leadership is divided on the issue. Some have even chose to sit along with the rest of them, linking arms in a show of solidarity against heresy worldwide. Protesters are now sitting on one side, while traditional worship is done on the other side. One traditional worshiping member Chuck Jenkins, expressed concern over the division, saying, "Isn't there always going to be heresy? Bob and I were great friends, but ever since he started sitting during the songs to protest heresy, I've kind of felt like we weren't on the same page anymore. Does he think I'm a heretic? I don't know. I hope heresy ends soon so that we can stand together again."
